Summary

This workshop will examine autism and social work practice through a neurodiversity framework. Presenters will review DSM-V diagnostic criteria and introduce the concept of neurodiversity. Then, presenters will provide an overview of clinical assessment tools and the role of social workers in autism assessment. The workshop will end with an examination of disparities in autism diagnosis and services and introduction to evidence-based practices. Social workers from all backgrounds will leave this workshop feeling more knowledgeable about autism and empowered with actionable strategies to make their practice more inclusive and effective.
