Part 2: Best Practice Interventions with Supervision Challenges
In Texas, Social Work licensing requires three hours of continuing education in clinical supervision topics and Professional Counselor licensing mandates six hours per biennium in order to renew approved supervisory status, recognizing the need for ongoing learning, consultation, and skill practice in this area. Clinical supervisors are often faced with challenging situations, and in many cases face these in relative isolation. Utilizing case method teaching and consultative process, this advanced training will build on the participants’ knowledge of the relational model of clinical supervision, and will address ethical considerations in supervision. This second 1.5 hours will address best practice interventions with supervision challenges. The workshop will highlight supervisory situations involving professional boundaries and use of self, and is designed to enhance ethical and effective communication patterns. Take this opportunity to refresh existing skills, and to b uild advanced clinical supervision expertise.
Participants will be able to:
- Build clinical supervision malpractice prevention strategies using contracting skills and professional self-awareness
- Demonstrate understanding of the barriers to simultaneously challenging and supporting supervisees
- Identify challenges in supervisory relationships, while using best practice strategies to determine possibilities and ethical interventions
- Define ways to advance skills in clinical supervision relationships with regard to professional boundaries and professional use of self
